Kath Megaw shares 10 tips to help your teen lose weight, with love as the main ingredient

Kath Megaw – South Africa’s leading paediatrician, author of Real Food – Healthy, Happy Children and co-author of the award-winning cookbook The Low Carb Solution For Diabetics – has shared an important article on her blog, entitled “10 Things Teens Wish Parents Knew About Weight Loss”.

These 10 tips for parents follow on the principles set out in her book Real Food in which she makes a strong case for love as the main ingredient in any diet, especially where our children are concerned.

1. “Don’t tell me my weight is OK.” If your teen is overweight and says he or she wants to slim down, listen to his or her concerns and offer to help find some solutions. Don’t minimise the problem.

2. “Get off my back.” Don’t nag, preach, criticize, or try to coerce your teen into losing weight. Talk to your teen like a friend – not a disciplinarian.
