The Low-Carb Solution For DiabeticsSweet Life magazine is giving away a copy of The Low Carb Solution for Diabetics by Vickie de Beer and Kath Megaw.

The book, which won the 2015 Sunday Times Food Weekly Cookbook of the Year Award, is called “a happy solution for both busy moms and even busier kids”.

When working mother Vickie de Beer’s life changed forever, she and leading paediatric dietician Kath Megaw set about ‘The Low-Carb Solution for Diabetics’ – and, in the process, developed an arsenal of the most effective systems and day-to-day strategies for practically dealing with diabetes.

Help Pete Goffe-Wood and The Food Bank Create a South Africa Without Hunger (And Win Tickets to London)

A Life DigestedPete Goffe-Wood has teamed up with the Food Bank in a challenge to eradicate hunger.

The Food Bank has launched a three-step initiative to realise their vision of a “South Africa without hunger” which involves local chefs offering their recipes to be recreated at R40 per person.

According to the Food Bank’s website one third of locally produced food goes to waste every day and more than 11 million people don’t know where their next meal will come from:

Although South Africa produces enough food to feed its entire population, many cannot access this food because of the high cost. This results in approximately one third of the food we produce going to landfill, resulting in a very negative impact on the environment by producing the climate-changing greenhouse gas – methane.

For the 11 million South Africans who go hungry every day, this is their reality, and the motivation for the ongoing work that FoodBank SA does.

The MasterChef South Africa judge, veteran food columnist and author of A Life Digested has donated one of his recipes to the Food Bank and extended the following challenge to his followers on Twitter:

Are you up for the challenge? You can help feed a person in need in three easy steps:

  • Step one: Take R40 and buy a recipe from one of SA’s top chefs
  • Step two: Add some love and watch as your R40 feeds someone for an entire month
  • Step three: Stir in some love and you could win two business-class tickets to London
